Treaty oak. This tree was saved in part because a journalist invented a story that claimed the the white settlers struck a treaty with the Indians under it. This is not true, but the name stuck. It is in fact a 250 year old tree that was saved in part because of the activism of the Garden Club of Jacksonville.
A view up into the canopy of the tree. These oaks are amazing, and there are lots of them all over Jacksonville, but this is the biggest and oldest one.
